South End Junior Basketball League
The South End Junior Basketball (SEJBB) league has been around since 2007. Each year we strive to set the standard for youth basketball leagues by taking a critical look at what we do well and what we can improve upon.
We strive to provide a positive environment for our kids to learn about basketball, teamwork, living active lifestyles, and good sportsmanship. To support this, we are focused on helping our volunteer coaches create fun, skills–oriented practices that make sure your children participate and sweat. We believe in games that are refereed consistently and reinforce the spirit of the rules. We want each participant to learn about how to gracefully win and lose. While we don’t put too much emphasis on the score, we do feel that without a score, that lesson is hard to teach.
Managing the talent levels is often the hardest part of running a youth league – and the challenge is twofold. First, there is the disparity among the players. Some players are up–and coming superstars, while others are just learning how to control their ever–growing bodies. To address this, we are making sure the coaches have good strategies and practice plans to help develop each player based on their needs.
There are two divisions in SEJBB. The Lower Division is for grades Kindergarten and First. Typically, this is for players between the ages of five and six. The Upper Division is for players in Second and third grade – typically ages seven and eight. If your first–grader is older than his classmates or particularly skilled, you might want to think about moving to the Upper Division.
