Class Prerequisite:
JG Prep is for swimmers ages 9 through 16 who already know how to swim but who will benefit from extra conditioning and stroke refinement prior to taking the swim test. Swimmers are expected to be able to swim 4 lengths of the pool freestyle, aka “front crawl”, without assistance on the first day.
Note: JG Prep classes are limited to 18 swimmers; we reserve the right to cancel a class if less than 8 swimmers register.
Testing Info:
Beachsports: Swimmers must swim 100 yds freestyle under 2:30 & tread water for 5 min. ZAP is an approved BeachSports test site; Testing is free for swimmers enrolled in our classes.
LA County JGs: Swimmers must swim 100 yards freestyle under 1:50 (ages 9–11), 1:40 (ages 12–13) and 1:30 (ages 13–16).
New for 2009: All New Program Applicants will be required to complete an “Underwater Test” before taking the applicable swim test for their age. The Underwater Test will simply require the applicant to dive to the bottom of the pool and retrieve a swim ring. Maximum pool depth will be 7’ or less.
Swimmers must pass the test at one of the testing sites on one of the 3 scheduled days:
- May 7 at Mira Costa
- May 21 at Culver City Plunge
- June 5 @ Malibu HS.
Zenith Aquatic Program
Zenith Aquatic Program (ZAP) is a year round competitive swim team servicing the Los Angeles South Bay community (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Torrance, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, Lomita and Long Beach). We offer high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities from novice to national level of USA swimming. Our goal is to help each swimmer Elevate to his or her highest potential, both in and out of the water. We set ourselves apart by being more than just a swim team, we are a swim community; we provide a fun, yet productive, swimmer–centered environment for kids and adults of all ages regardless of their swimming background. Our flagship program is our swim team but we also proudly offer swimming lessons, non–competitive swim conditioning and adult masters.
ZAP coaches, as members of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) and USA Swimming, take advantage of the most comprehensive training and certification programs for coaches of any sport in the United States.
